Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with an addition of niobium that stiffens the alloy's matrix and provides high strength without a strengthening heat treatment. This combination makes Inconel 625 sheet and plate exceptionally resistant to a wide range of severely corrosive environments, especially pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-contaminated media such as seawater, neutral salts, and brines.
Unlike Inconel 600 (72% min nickel, no molybdenum), Inconel 625 contains approximately 58% nickel, 20-23% chromium, and 8-10% molybdenum, plus 3.15-4.15% niobium. The higher chromium and molybdenum content gives 625 superior corrosion resistance and strength compared to 600, making it the preferred choice for marine, aerospace, and chemical processing applications.

Key Properties That Matter
Corrosion Resistance
Inconel 625 offers outstanding resistance to:
- Pitting and crevice corrosion – especially in seawater and chloride-rich environments. This is one of its standout advantages over Inconel 600
- Chloride stress corrosion cracking – effectively immune in hot chloride solutions
- Oxidizing and reducing acids – including nitric, phosphoric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acids (up to 40°C for HCl)
- Intergranular corrosion – no weld decay sensitivity in the as-welded condition
- High-temperature oxidation and carburization – retains corrosion resistance in static and cyclic environments
Typical Applications

- Marine Engineering
- Aerospace
- Chemical Processing
- Pollution Control
- Nuclear Industry
- Oil and Gas
- Heat Treatment
- Pharmaceutical and Food Processing
